Samuel Gal Alterovich

Artistic Director

Gal Alterovich is a conductor, educator, and entrepreneur whose professional path bridges distinguished orchestral leadership with meaningful contributions to music education and community engagement.

He studied orchestral conducting under Professor Mendi Rodan at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and later honed his artistry through mentorship with renowned figures including Professor Jorma Panula, Marin Alsop, Professor Noam Sheriff, and Professor Harold Farberman.

Alterovich’s conducting engagements have brought him to a wide spectrum of renowned and respected orchestras across the United States, Europe, and Israel. These include the American Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Moscow National Academic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra – Rishon LeZion, Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra. His international appearances have taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Berliner Philharmonie, the Bolshoi Theatre and the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem Theatre, and the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Jerusalem.

Over the years, Alterovich has worked with a distinguished roster of internationally acclaimed soloists, among them Katia Ricciarelli, Vladimir Spivakov, Rivka Golani, Sergei Ostrovsky, Albert Mamriev, Amit Peled, and the Silver-Garburg Piano Duo.

Equally devoted to education, Alterovich has spent the past two decades nurturing the next generation of musicians. He has taught and conducted at prominent music institutions in Haifa and Tel Aviv and has served as music director and conductor of notable youth ensembles, including the Israel National Youth Orchestra. He currently leads the string orchestra of the Kfar Saba Conservatory and is responsible for developing and conducting the Israel Symphony Orchestra’s educational concerts and programs, both municipally and nationally.

Believing deeply in music's power to drive social change, Alterovich has also initiated several educational ventures. He co-founded Meytar Music Education (2006–2013), a national program that provided high-quality instrumental training to thousands of students from underserved communities. In 2024, he co-founded Musica Impact, where he has served as Artistic Director since its establishment.

In addition to his on-stage and educational work, Alterovich is frequently invited to serve on juries for major music competitions. Recent engagements include the Mehta-Buchman Music Academy Wind Competition, the Kfar Saba National Wind Competition, and national matriculation juries for the Israeli Ministry of Education.

Earlier in his career, Alterovich held significant artistic leadership positions, including Resident Conductor roles with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Bard Music Festival in New York, and the Ra’anana Symphonette Orchestra. He also served as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Haifa Student Symphony Orchestra and the Afula Music Conservatory.
